My main influence
is my Mom who is a wonderful painter and
who turned me on to the naïve folk
artists of eastern Europe. She also made
it a point to drag me to the wonderful
art museums in Italy and NYC as a kid.
I'm also into Haitian Folk art, my first
exposure coming from the collection of
paintings at my friends Jacques Hoffmann's
house. I've had several painting shows,
mostly at Small World Coffee in Princeton
to which I must thank them for supporting
the arts locally. I was too intimated,
sadly, by the painting department at Mass.
Art where I graduated college so I didn't
start until after school. But painting
to me provides a peace of mind which seems
to balance the noisey chaos of my musical
life.
I often use
my stamp collection, glueing them to canvas
to represent leaves on a tree or bricks
on a building and which accentuate the
idea of space and time. |
